Characteristics of using large-diameter flanges and fasteners together

Large-diameter flanges commonly include weld neck flanges and slip-on flanges. Threaded flanges do not come in large diameters. In actual production and sales, slip-on flanges are more prevalent. Large-diameter slip-on flanges and large-diameter weld neck flanges differ in structure and application range, exhibiting different characteristics and advantages. Therefore, they should be used according to different ranges to ensure the flange plays an important role. Large-diameter slip-on flanges have lower rigidity and are suitable for occasions with pressure p≤4MPa; weld neck flanges, also known as high-neck flanges, have higher rigidity and are suitable for occasions with higher pressure and temperature.
There are three types of flange sealing surfaces: flat face sealing surface, suitable for low-pressure applications; raised face sealing surface, suitable for slightly higher pressure applications; and tongue and groove sealing surface, suitable for flammable, explosive, toxic media, and higher pressure applications. Large-diameter flanges are often used with fasteners. Below are the application characteristics of both: First, the mechanical properties of large-diameter flanges should be sampled on the heat-treated blank along the rolling direction. The sampling location is as follows: If the blank diameter is no more than 40mm, then the sample should be taken at the center; if the blank diameter is greater than 40mm, then the sample should be taken with a diameter of one-quarter as the center. Equal-length double-headed studs and full-threaded studs should be tested in batches. Nuts should be tested for hardness in batches; special fasteners should have material qualification certificates from the manufacturer.
Fasteners are a type of mechanical part used for fastening connections and are widely used in various machinery, equipment, vehicles, ships, railways, bridges, buildings, structures, tools, instruments, meters, and supplies. Its characteristics are numerous varieties and specifications, diverse performance and uses, and a high degree of standardization, serialization, and generalization.
Special large-diameter flange fasteners should be sampled and inspected in batches after heat treatment. The inspection results should meet relevant regulations, and the mechanical properties of the product should not be lower than those in the sampling state. Full studs for pipe large-diameter flanges with a nominal pressure PN of not less than 10.0 MPa should be subjected to magnetic particle inspection according to JB 4730-1994 "Non-destructive testing of pressure vessels." After the inspection, the product will be fine and should meet the requirements of secondary forging large-diameter flanges.
